25 of the best cities to live on the East Coast | Lifestyles

If you want to live somewhere where you know your neighbors, where you can kayak or swim in a lake near the mountains, where your kids can attend top-notch schools, or where you’ll be surrounded by history, these communities on the East Coast could be for you.

Most listings are within commuting distance of major cities such as New York or Washington DC, but many have retained their small-town feel.

Stacker referenced Niche’s 2021 Best Places to Live study and limited the results to East Coast locations with fewer than 5,000 residents. Niche calculated the best places to live based on factors such as cost, safety, quality of weather, access to healthy living, and several other elements. For each city, Stacker included the resident population as well as figures for homeowners, renters and median household income.

While this data is the most recent available, some housing statistics used by Niche to calculate its ranking, such as median home value and housing costs, do not fully reflect the current housing market. Since these numbers are subject to frequent change and housing makes up 5% of Niche’s total ranking, these statistics are omitted from upcoming data points and do not detract from Niche’s overall rating of the best places to live. .
