India Today uses LiveU’s LU800 for live coverage
News network India Today has increased its deployment of LiveU’s LU800 multi-camera solution across the country for live coverage of its TV channels, complementing its existing fleet of LiveU live streaming solutions. The LU800 provides critical reliability and increased flexibility for the broadcaster’s daily news, sports and entertainment coverage, with its simultaneous field switching capabilities. The network is rolling out LU800 5G units, ready for India’s 5G network launch expected later this year. Round-the-clock service and support is provided by LiveU’s local partner, Lamhas Satellite Services.
Mrityunjoy Pal, Assistant Vice President – aired on India Today, said, “We are really pleased with the robustness and video performance of the LU800, especially its multi-camera capabilities and switch function. For example, at a recent event, we were interviewing a prominent politician in the run up to the election. Using the LU800 we had two streams entering the station from one unit and our English and Hindi channels had the option of choosing different pictures instead of the same picture being broadcast on each channel. The LU800 has played a key role in providing engaging coverage of recent elections as well as other daily news and events.
India Today is a long-time LiveU customer, using a wide range of solutions across the LiveU ecosystem. This includes dozens of LU800 and LU600 field units, over 50 LU-Smart mobile apps, as well as IFB intercom production tools. Live content is delivered directly to India Today broadcast channels and online media via Delhi and Bombay news bureaus, often using remote production workflows.
Pal added: “Our national and international reporters, for example in London, use the LiveU field units and the LU-Smart app on a daily basis to deliver high quality video feeds to our central newsrooms. Live transmission stability is solid, and the LiveU Central management platform makes it easy to manage multiple devices. The local support provided by Lamhas and LiveU is also excellent; we always feel that we are in safe hands, regardless of the circumstances involved in covering the live event.
Using the LU800, camera operators can send up to four fully synchronized high-resolution (1080p50/60, 10-bit HDR) streams from a single unit to any remote production center – physical or based on the cloud.
Ranjit Bhatti, Senior Director – South Asia, LiveU, said, “It is great to see our LU800 being used in an innovative and cost-effective way for live broadcasting to millions of viewers by India Today, which is one of the most popular television networks in India. This is a fantastic use case, and we look forward to further strengthening our business relationship with them. We are increasingly seeing the benefits of our multi-camera solution for the news industry, bringing new ways to cover the news for increased viewer engagement and reach. »
