Obituary: William (Bill) Ernest Cramer, 87, of Madison

William (Bill) Ernest Cramer died while a resident of Madison House in Madison CT on March 18, 2022 at the age of 87 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Bill was born on December 7, 1934 in New Haven, CT. to Herman and Emily (Doebelle) Cramer. Bill has resided his entire life at Upson Terrace in New Haven.

Bill attended New Haven High School and Hopkins School, also in New Haven.

Bill earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from UConn in 1956. He also received his master’s degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After college Bill worked for several companies including Pratt and Whitney Tool and General Dynamics Electric Boat. He then started his own engineering company, with fellow UConn graduate Carl Lindell; Cramer & Lindell engineers, in Niantic, Connecticut.

Bill’s friends were many and from all phases of his life. Everyone who knew Bill found him to be generous, kind, and very much enjoyed his company. Bill was passionate about saltwater fishing and knew exactly where to find fish in the waters of Long Island Sound on his 40 foot boat, the Makaira.

A service in memory of Bill will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at WS Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, CT. The burial will be private.
