We’ve come so far in a year, but we haven’t even started yet, Happy birthday GB news, says Mark Dolan

A week is a long time in politics, and a year is a long time in broadcasting. This brand new news television network celebrates its first anniversary today. We are officially a year and an hour into our journey.

Like the Allied airstrikes in World War II, it was a bumpy ride, but ultimately a victorious one. We started with a few technical issues and yes, we went through more sound engineers than James Corden went through Krispy Kreme donuts.

A few people passed by the side of the road. One of the channel’s founding presenters, the immensely talented Andrew Neil did just over a week of broadcasts and fled to the south of France, glass of champagne in hand, aboard the smallest private jet in the world.

He now makes a living at Channel 4 and good luck to him. Activists were trying to get us canceled before we even started, which surely proves why this channel was needed. High profile commentators are threatening to boycott GB News advertisers.

Why? Because like so many people working in TV, radio, print and online, they thought they had the media scene stitched together. They were wrong. We were the only television crew to challenge the narrative on all levels – on covid measures, on vaccine mandates and on climate change to name just three.

No other TV channel asked what we were thinking when we shut down the economy for two years. Since April 2022, I have challenged the crazy communist idea of lockdowns and I believe history will judge me kindly. And on this channel, whether it’s Neil Oliver’s haunting monologues, Dan Wootton’s fiery debates, Nana Akua’s pitch-perfect rants, or Michelle Dewberry’s real-world smarts and savvy, GB news denounces the madness of the Covid measures since we have been on the air.

So if you’ve been sitting there for two years thinking this is all crazy and the world has gone mad, thanks to this place you’re not alone.

For two years most of the media made you think you were crazy, cruel or stupid for questioning masks, lockdowns, school closures and vaccination mandates. If you think biological men, with full penises and testicles using female spaces, participating in women’s sports, filling women’s prisons, and in some cases impregnating female inmates, are nuts, thanks to this place , you are not alone. If you think it’s good to love your country, if you think patriotism is the way to bring our nation together, all of its communities, races, cultures and social classes, through this place, you won’t ‘re not alone.

If you think people voted for Brexit by a majority and that decision should be honored, and that we need to tap into the enormous potential of global Britain, thanks to this place you are not alone .

And if you’re someone who has questions, just questions, about vaccines – their effectiveness and safety, if you wonder why healthy young people need them to live normal lives, then thanks to us, you are not alone. When iconic football manager Sir Alex Ferguson took over at Manchester United, he said he was going to knock Liverpool off their perch.

That’s what we’re here to do with Sky, the Beeb, ITV and all our other rivals. And how are we going to do that? By being authentic, by saying what we mean. And giving you a voice. We have a world-class, talented and diverse team that reflects modern Britain, both in front of and behind the camera.

Just an hour away, we had a sunny, Shia Muslim on this channel, debating blasphemy and censorship. Where else would you see this on UK TV? And everything we do is rooted in strong stories, balanced and respectful discussions, and a diversity of perspectives. But most broadcast media don’t like that. They don’t want to discuss anything. They want to sell one side of the story, whether it’s Covid, vaccines, economics and climate change.

So that bouncing baby from a TV network, who they tried to strangle at birth, is now a kicking and screaming toddler. And getting bigger and stronger is our only goal. Why? Because, I’ll be blunt, Britain needs British news, our democracy needs British news and you need British news. Well, we’re not going anywhere.

Five billion people have watched us digitally since we started. We regularly beat our closest rivals Sky, and personally, I’m generally moving forward now. We’re a digital network, with a colossal online footprint that already rivals a legacy medium that’s been around for decades.

We’re trending every other day online, demonstrating not just numbers, but editorial impact as well.

We talk about what matters to you.

Over a third of a million people watched my great opinion monologue on the World Health Organization, which I like to call the World Organization from Hell.

Our amazing team has done a hell of a job so far, but it wouldn’t be anything without you.

We are fully aware of all comments, good, bad and indifferent. So keep coming.

We want to get bigger, better, louder, more compelling and, if possible, more fun too.

If you like this show, and if you like the channel, tell your friends, tell your family, and let’s change the world together.

We’ve come so far in a year, but we haven’t even started yet. Buckle up guys, the best is yet to come. Happy birthday GB news.
