Financing of social enterprises

funding of € 28,515.90 has been announced for social enterprises in County Wicklow.

The Social Enterprise Capital Grants Scheme 2021 will provide funding for the purchase of equipment or for carrying out repairs or renovations to enable social enterprises to improve their service delivery.

The Ministry of Rural and Community Development is now inviting social enterprises across the country to apply for funding under the program. The Social Enterprise Capital Grants Scheme 2021 is administered by Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) in each local authority area.

Around 120 social enterprises from across Ireland will be supported under this program. The total fund amounts to 1 million euros. Final decisions on funding will be made by the Ministry of Rural and Community Development.

Run the line

The Run the Line fundraising event for the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team returns in November.

The event consists of two separate races, 13km and 26km, through the mountains of Dublin, starting and ending at Glencullen Adventure Park. The races will take place in many spectacular locations along the route, offering breathtaking views.

This year’s fundraising efforts will focus on supporting the continued efforts to have a purpose-built house to meet the needs of the busy rescue team. Members need a place to train and store essential supplies and equipment, which could also serve as a base from which search and rescue operations can be coordinated.

The team will be out in force at Glencullen Adventure Park and along the course. Run the Line takes place on Saturday 20 November from 10 a.m.

Active retirement

Laragh / Glendalough Active Retirement Group was sad to learn of the sudden passing of Father Oliver Crotty and would like to express its sincere condolences to his family.

He was a member of the group and regularly attended weekly meetings and monthly lunches before Covid.

He will be sadly missed by all associated with Laragh and Glendalough Active Retirement and all members of the local community.

The next meeting will be on the morning of Tuesday, September 28 for tea / coffee, light exercise and a make-up from 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Brockagh Center. Hopefully things will get back to normal during the month of October and the weekly meetings should be able to resume.

Elevation dance school

Elevation School of Dance has a brand new acro and aerial arts program and “TRIPLE AS” (“Acro and Aerial Artists Squad”).

It combines the tumbling, balance and flexibility skills of ACRO with the exciting skills learned on the aerial hoop and you have the new personalized program specific to ESPA students.

Students who register for this course will also have the opportunity to take the complementary AcroDance course and become members of our “TRIPLE A SQUAD” allowing opportunities for competitions and performance as an Acro team.

Roundwood beekeepers

Roundwood Beekeepers Association is running a FIBKA Beginners Course from October. This is an eight week course presented by Wille O’Byrne.

Personal alarms

Roundwood and the District Community Council are registered to administer the Senior Alert Scheme, which provides grants to the elderly for the provision of personal alarms.

The personal alarm gives reassurance to allow an independent life, knowing that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbor in an emergency. It offers security and peace of mind.

Annamoe Center

The Annamoe Center tennis court is open again. If anyone has any questions or would like to make a reservation, please contact Christine on 086 805 7431.

Children’s tennis training takes place at the Annamoe Center every Saturday morning.

Anyone interested in participating on Saturday morning can visit the website www.jsta.ie to reserve a spot for children’s tennis.

Mother and baby groups

The Brockagh Resource Center has provided space for a group of mothers, babies and toddlers for the past few years now.

If you are interested in leading this group, contact [email protected] as funds are now available.

Applications for funding under this program should only be made by parent and toddler groups that are organized on a not-for-profit basis and involve the participation of parents in the community. Grants normally range from € 100 to € 1,250.

Glenealy Computer Center

Registration is now taking place at the Glenealy IT Center for the following part-time certified courses – ECDL, Manual and Computerized Accounting and Payroll, Photoshop, Advanced Word and Excel.

Film Production Course – Interested in a Career in Film and Creative Media? Do you want to take advantage of job opportunities in the cinema sector?

A new program has been launched. Starting in September, this part-time BTEC International Diploma course is an interactive and creative project-based training program, with an emphasis on hands-on ‘hands-on’ skills. It covers cinematography, lighting, audio production, film production and factual production.

Fully funded according to criteria. Register now if you are interested as places are limited.

Closure of Colley Row

Wicklow County Council plans to temporarily close the public road known as Colley Row in the town of Wicklow for a three-day period in October.

The temporary closure will take place from Monday, October 11 to Wednesday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Detour routes will be in place and from Glenside Road motorists should continue straight ahead and take a left onto Summerhill, then a left onto the Crinion Park roundabout.

From Crinion Park, go straight to the roundabout onto Summerhill, then turn right at the intersection with Glenside Road. The road closure is necessary for the domestic gas connection.


Bingo is expected to resume in Rathdrum in October, it has been confirmed.

The weekly Rathdrum Development Association (RDA) matches on a Friday night in the RDA Hall have been suspended since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, changes to public health guidelines will allow certain indoor events, including bingo, to resume during the month of October.

Clothing bank

Donate your unwanted clothes to the Brockagh Resource Center Clothing Bank, located at the back of the building.

All profits are intended for the maintenance of the center. You can also empty your glass and cans at other recycling banks.

Walking group

Monday mornings every week at 10 a.m., join the Laragh Walking Group at the Brockagh Resource Center for a walk in the Glendalough area for approximately an hour.

Win a house and a car

The Glenealy Hurling club’s “Win ​​a Home and a Car in Wicklow” fundraising campaign was well received locally.

The club would like to thank everyone who has supported them so far.
